The PROTEVS system is a unique solar farm located in the Netherlands, where the panels are floating on a lake. It may not have the highest power output, with a capacity of 73 kW, compared to the largest farm in China at 320 MW. However, it has other advantages that make it stand out in the industry. One of the main benefits of the PROTEVS system is its unique design. Unlike other floating solar power plants, the PROTEVS system is able to move with the water and adjust to the sun’s position, increasing its efficiency. This means that it can generate more power per square meter than traditional solar farms. Additionally, by placing the panels on water, PROTEVS can save land for other uses, such as agriculture. Over the past decade, the total power output of photovoltaic cells worldwide has increased twelvefold. This trend is expected to continue, with existing capacity needing to increase sixfold by 2030 in order to stay on track for zero emissions. This means that large solar farms will occupy an area six times larger than they do now. As the world’s population continues to grow and the threat of a food crisis looms, it becomes increasingly important to use land efficiently. By placing solar panels on water, the PROTEVS system is able to generate power without taking up valuable land resources. SolarisFloat has been strengthening its international strategy by investing in the registration of patents in strategic markets. This is the case for USA, a highly qualified and key market in the floating photovoltaics solar scene, where the company has already granted the concession of the 2nd patent in less than 1 year.

In the European market, SolarisFloat has granted a patent to 18 EU countries. In South Africa, the PROTEVS® solution has already achieved the registration of 4 patents, with another 4 in force in countries of OAPI (Organization Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle).

The granting of these patents reinforces the investment strategy in R&D and the recognition of the added value that intellectual property brings to PROTEVS®.

SolarisFloat installs its first PROTEVS project in the Netherlands

After being chosen by the consortium led by TNO (which includes Sabic, Equinor and the Municipality of Westvoorne), SolarisFloat completed the implementation of its PROTEVS® solution at Oostvoornse Lake, in Holland.

The implemented solution – PROTEVS® – with 1 axis tracking holds 130 modules of floating photovoltaic solar panels, with an installed capacity of 50.7 kWp .

SolarisFloat carried out this project in close partnership with the Dutch company SUNPROJECTS, aiming to invest in the Dutch market.

This project is part of the strategy developed for the Dutch market to evaluate the performance and success of Floating Photovoltaic Solutions, one of the priority markets for SolarisFloat.

On July 22 SolarisFloat’s General Manager will be present at Intersolar Floating Solar PV Conference. He will join a panel of high-level experts on Floating Solar. SolarisFloat chosen to build Solar Floating Systems in the Netherlands

A consortium led by TNO recently launched a research project in the field of renewable energies. This, specifically, aims the installation of floating solar energy systems.

The petrochemical company SABIC, the Norwegian energy company Equinor and the municipality of Westvoorne are partnering in this consortium. It leds to the selection of three companies, from a list of twelve candidates, with promising system designs to help further develop floating solar energy in the Dutch Market.

SolarisFloat is one of the three chosen companies, that will implement its solution PROTEVS, a Tracking Floating PV solution, that aims to increased production output. This project is being implemented at the Fieldlab Green Economy Westvoorne of the Oostvoornse Lake near the Maasvlakte. After this first phase of the project, the solar system, of 50 KWp of installed capacity, will be tested for a year. This first phase will allow to analyze effectiveness of key features, such as electrical performance, mechanical dynamic stability and ecological effects.

This initiative is done within the Renewable Energies strategic approach of the Dutch Market, that aims to have 2GWp of only in floating solar until 2023.

“This is a very important recognition and big step forward for SolarisFloat, after the last years of assuring that PROTEVS is a market ready and competitive solution. We aim, since the beginning of this challenge,, not only for the National Portuguese market, but the international one. From the five patents requested, SolarisFloat conquered the first one. This situation can accelerate the growth of the company in North America market and strengthen its position in growing sector of Renewable Energies.

SolarisFloat’s modular platform enables the installation of small floating photovoltaic plants, leveraging the surfaces of rivers, lagoons and reservoirs. The uniqueness of the solution, known as Protevs, relies also in the integration of one or two-axis rotation. This translates in increasing the power generation up to 40%.

The first patent of five approved in the US, regarding the unique modular design, will be a booster for the registration of these same patents in other geographies. This accomplishment will perform as a promoter of strategic networking and business in the North American market.
